Accessory Discussion / Reviews>Xikar Tech Torch Lighter Modification

So, I like the look of this lighter. Actually, I like everything about this lighter. But, for some reason, my torch flame has just not been very powerful. Often times it will just go out. I finally got tired of this and decided to investigate :-)

Even with the bottom fuel knob maxed out, the flame was not strong.

1 - On the bottom fuel knob there is a small phillips screw.
2 - Take the screw out.
3 - Pull up on the fuel knob and lift it all the way off.
4 - Now you will see the actual fuel gauge. You can turn that up way further than the fuel knob was allowing. This is because of a notch on the body of the lighter. On the under side of the fuel knob you will see plastic walls that will prevent the fuel knob from being turned up too much.
5 - At this point there are a couple options. You could break off the small notch on the body (actually I would just file it down). After reassemble, the fuel knob will have free range of motion to turn up the lighter or down, as you please. The other option is to set the actual fuel level to desired strength. Then replace the fuel knob so that you can still increase and still decrease the flame (this is what i did).

Bottom line, the fuel knob is designed to limit how high and low the flame can be set, but it is limited depending on how the assembler put it together.

That all make sense? Either way, it has made my lighter WAYYYYY better!

Thanks for the tip!!!

I have found the sameissues with my Tech. I love the huge fuel resevoir, but the flame can be lacking in the pressure department at times. I have blown it out purging a cigar before.... that shouldn't happen with a lighter you ask me!

I will try this modification this week, Thanks!

Will this void the warranty?

Maby if you tell them that you did it. Just move it back to where it was if you have to send it in.

I don't know about you guys, but mine puts out one heck of a flame.

Filing or breaking off the stop tab most likely would. If they catch it or not is another issue.

Simply turning up the lighter to increase the gas flow, then putting the knob back in place, technically it might, but they would have no way of knowing that it didn't come at the higher flow rate from the factory.

Let me know how it worked out for you.

Like i was saying, i did not file anything down. i just re-adjusted the bottom fuel knob correctly on the actual fuel gauge to give me play to make the flame higher or lower.

It really is hard to explain, but if you start tinkering with the lighter it will become clear.

Yes, I think most are fine. But somewhere in the assembly process the bottom fuel knob is not placed right causing the problem explained in the OP.

My flame kicks ass now after making a change.

I need to try this because I am having the same issue. I am very close to sending it back to them. Hasn't performed nearly as well as my Bugatti.

This seems interesting, I'm intrigued. Time to go find a Xikar and see what I can do.

I will more than likely end up doing this to mine. Just for poops and giggles.

I would send an Email to Xikar ,and talk to them about it. I am sure they would love to know that there is an issue.
