When I was recently in North Carolina visiting my uncle, I mentioned that I am a pipe smoker. My grandfather was also a pipe smoker. My uncle went to another room for a minute, and came back with this ash tray, which he gave to me. I remember it as a kid, being on my grandfather's desk. He had a rack of 6 pipes, a tobacco jar, and this ash tray. He only had "working man's" pipes, probably Grabows and the like, and I can recall that he smoked Captain Black. I think that the tobacco jar was "milk glass," which I think was pretty common for that era. This ash tray is Blue Delft, and was made in Holland. Not sure how he came to acquire this, as I'm thinking it was kind of fancy for them, but it's pretty neat. I'm very glad to own it now.

Yes, definitely! :-)

Thanks for sharing that with us. It's really cool that you have something personal that belonged to your grandfather. It's even better that it's associated with fond childhood memories. Best of all it's related to a common interest you share with him. Definitely cool. :-)

I envy you, what a neat family memento. Wish I could have obtained a memento from my grandfather. I was fourteen when we first smoked cigars together later came the pipe. I think of him often. Thanks for sharing this.:-)

Quite a find...reminds me to ask my mom about a sterling silver cigarette holder and lighter that was my grandfather's.

That is awesome. I wish I had my grandfathers pipes. They disappeared after the house was sold.

I would not be a pipe smoker were it not for a few of these type gifts.
When my mother moved frm NO, she had me help her empty out the
house and relatives came from the area to reclaim things they had lent
my dad on long terms. At the end of the day she gave me a handmade
pipe tobacco humidor he made with 6 pipe rack deallies on the side.
I also picked up a few pipes, but the nice ones she gave to my Uncle.

Then in Michigan at my uncle's funeral, his son rightly guessed I would
like a few pipes from his dad, whom I revered. And then I was pushed
down the bunny slope we all know and love by a few Aholes here.
