I met him once. He was leaving a floating barge based nightclub on the Ohio River. Had just played a show. I see him coming up the walkway to shore, getting helped because he was a little tipsy. I said hello, he stopped and insisted on talking with me. Told him I'd missed the show because I'd been called into work at the firehouse.
"Oh hell, let's go back inside and buy you a couple drinks!" That was about the last words Gilley's manager wanted to hear, but he wasn't going to argue with the boss. It was one hell of a night, although I doubt Mickey would remember much of it.
