Former '60 Minutes' commentator Andy Rooney dies
NEW YORK — CBS says former "60 Minutes" humorist Andy Rooney has died just a month after his final commentary aired.
He was 92. CBS says he died Friday night in New York.
Rooney spent more than 30 years wryly talking about the oddities of life for "60 Minutes." He would rail about how unpleasant air travel has become, question why banks have important-sounding names or just talk about the old clothes in his closet.
He joined CBS in 1949 and wrote for numerous shows and stars over the years. He teamed up with newsman Harry Reasoner in the 1960s, and they collaborated on several news specials. One was an Emmy-winning report on misrepresentations of blacks in movies and history books.
Rooney and his late wife, Marguerite, had four children.
