General Discussion>xbox question

I am thinking of buying an xbox. I have been looking on ebay, and have a question. Is there a differance between a regular xbox and the arcade ones?

Yes there is a difference. If you want to get your dollars worth, buy an Elite or buy the standard Xbox 360. The arcades only have 256MB of memory. The standard has 60GB and the Elite has 120GB.

What type of gaming do you want to do with it?

Better yet, save yourself a large amount of hastle.

Buy a brand new one. Period.

These things are nicknamed the Deathbox for a reason. They will die. It's not if, it's when. Some may take a year, others may take 2 years. But it will die. If you buy a new one, you get a 3 year warranty. If you buy used, you get no warranty. Your call, but a few more dollars now is worth it in the long run.

(ETA:: I'm assuming you mean Xbox 360 since you're talking about the Arcade)

The Arcade is worthless if you ever plan on saving your progress on any games or saving anything to your Xbox. The 256K of memory is next to nothing plus the accessories that come with the Arcade package are far inferior. :-)

Agree with Jordan too, buy one brand new and get the warranty that goes with it. If you get it from Best Buy the protection plan is about $20 (I recommend this option)and all you have to do is bring it in and they hand you a brand new one, makes it too easy and well worth the $20 to not have to send it away and wait for it to get fixed. :-)

Mine broke after being used for at least 2 almost 3 years. If it breaks again I'll be getting an elite or waiting for the next generation. Please do not buy the arcade version. Go to best buy and buy a new one along with the warranty.:-)

I am just looking at playing shooter games. Would I be better off with a Playstation?

Depends really.

If he wants Halo, go 360, otherwise it doesn't really matter.

The Xbox will be cheaper in the short run, but you're gonna have to pay ~40 - 50$ a year for multiplayer. PS3 is free.

We wont get into the 360 vs ps3 debate, but you have to admit that "alot" more people play multiplayer on live than they do on the ps3 system. Plus the games available for the 360 way out number ps3.:-)

You can get into it all you want. I own both systems. I know whats out there. It depends on your friends list. Yes a lot of people play on Live, but I have a healthy list on the PSN too.

Also games vs 'quality' games is something else entirely. Based on 'quality', they're nearing equal with the PS3 offering far more exciting games in the year of 09 than the 360 has. :-)

Personally I think you get far more for your money with the PS3 than the Xbox. Especially in regards to hardware quality considering I'm on my 3rd 360 and I've owned my PS3 just as long.

And I use to be an avid PC user, but the idea of gaming on my couch with a beer within reach (and not having to worry about dumping it on my keyboard)... so much nicer.

Cost be damned - I like performance :-) Mine is more like 10x the cost anyway lol - but it's not just for games!

Nothing beats the Wii in the living room - I LOVE bowling!!

Now this we agree on. :-)

I used to be a PC only gamer. I still have the expensive gaming rig, but it is so much more convenient playing on the couch.:-)
