Sadly there is not a lot of anything near Ft. Polk. Now granted, I have been out of LA for many,
many years, but wow, talk about bleak back when. You'd do better with mail order, I'm afraid.
I do hope someone who isn't actually F.O.S. can help you out.

OLS is pretty much dead on. I was there back in 1997, so its been a while and it may have changed since then.

There was a decent BBQ joint out that way called Hickory Smokehouse out by DeRidder but that was about it. Not much of anything as I recall but then I only got off post like twice the whole time I was there.

And not just sparse pickins, but the road system in "CenLa" is such that it is a struggle
just to REACH civilization, and by that of course, I mean New Orleans, lol, or Baton
Rouge. :-) The interstate runs all wrong for getting around the area, and that is mostly
due, I guess, to the river and the swamps up there, and the nat forest. It's quaint,
and the people are nice, but whew boy, it's remote.

Well I made it to Ft. Polk and so far not so good but I should have a house on monday. My phone internet does not work here sadly so I will be switching to at&t so I will have the internet again. I spent about a year there one week during a JRTC Exercise years ago...It sucked soo good.

I did one rotation to JRTC back in the late 90s there. My brother is stationed at Polk now but he is currently deployed to Afghanistan also.
