So I thought I might be an environmentally responsible lad, and I subscribed to the "digital edition" of Pipes and Tobacco Magazine.

There is a problem however - you can only view the magazine online and there is no way to download your editions to read, for example, on an aeroplane.

This would strike me as not being a digital edition at all, and I do feel a bit angry about it. All we have now is a glorified website, for which you have to pay.

Is there anyone with influence with these people, because I confess, I feel ripped off.

what they mean when they say that is they are too lazy or cheap to have the pages converted to PDF format for the convenience of the digital users.

I would just cancel that and get the hard copy. KILL THE TREES!!!

Or just cancel all together. I find that there is enough information on the internet for free that there is no need to subscribe for magazines any more. Also, you can download web pages onto your iPad (if that's what you have) just add them to your reading list (glasses icon) and you can look at them off line. :-)

Neil... Just love the way you North of the Border Cousins spell words like 'color' and 'airplane' ! Must be a Canadian thing - getting the accent in print!

Or could be "Cullah" and in the USAF I just called them flying crate things "death traps"!

My spelling is in fact from my schooling in S Africa, which was quite British. They tried to beat the Boer it of me a bit by working on grammar and spelling. (Thus I grew up bilingual)

Canadian spelling varies, some adopting American form and some British.

But we do apologize for that. Apologizing is a very Canadian thing, eh?

Best sketch on spelling "colour" by the man who can't say the letter "c":
