Steve Saka is an industry veteran, yet his company Dunbarton Tobacco and Trust is still a very young company. Saka joined the cigar industry as a blogger, probably the first person to blog about cigars, before he joined JR Cigars as a marketing manager. From that, he became CEO of Drew Estate and turned the company into the largest manufacturer of infused cigars but also won the traditional cigar smokers over with the creation of Liga Privada.

Ever since Saka ventured out on his own, he has been praised for all the blends he released. It started with Sobremesa, and then he added Mi Querida, Muestra de Saka, Todos los Dias, Umbagog and this Sin Compromiso. For the Sin Compromiso, he’s using a wrapper grown in a way that Japanese fruit producers use. They cut the lowest branches or leaves off, so that the top leaves get more nutritions, creating a more flavorful wrapper.

Unlike most Nicaraguan cigars, the Sin Compromiso doesn’t have a cellophane wrapper, yet it is protected by a cedar sleeve with the name printed on it. The ring itself has a Celtic design, yet no name, no country, no other information making it look mysterious. The wrapper is dark and intimidating. The flag tail is a nice touch. The aroma is medium, and smell like manure and charred wood.

The cold draw is flawless, with a dry flavor which is hard to describe and some red pepper. Once lit, the cigar has a strong coffee flavor, with sweetness and bitter young wood. After a few puffs the flavors change to lime with green herbs, then there is pepper, leather and cedar, all with a sweet coating. After an inch, the flavors are pleasantly bitter with a combination of wood, leather, mushroom, soil, and sweetness. The cigar is subtle, yet halfway, the pepper grows a lot. The final third is a mixture of cedar, leather, pepper but all pleasantly sweet again.

The draw is phenomenal. The not to firm ash is white. The smoke is medium in thickness. The burn is straight on this full flavored, full bodied cigar. The smoke time is an hour and a half.

Strength: Full
Flavor: Full
