General Discussion>humidor maintenance

I have a 200 count savoy humidor that has been bad lately about holding humidity. I've had this 2 years and so decided to reseason it. So far, it has soaked up a load of distilled water, which makes me think that I'm not doing periodic maintenance very well on this.

How often do you reseason and what, if any, is your periodic maintenence like?

I have 65% beads in mine and always spray the tube when they get white and that's about it.

I've never reseasoned a humidor or performed any type of maintenence. I didn't know this was necessary. Like a good pipe with build-up, it should get better with age. My original humidor is still going strong after nearly 30 years.

Maybe something has happend to yours such as a fine crack??

I dont do anything post seasoning as long as it is in use. Did you have it full/empty?

I think the flashlight in the humidor in a dark room trick is in order.

I plan to do that tonight, but it may be that I ignored it too much over the winter when it was basically empty. Now that it is getting some moisture, the seal is almost hermetic!

I've never had to reseason any of my humis, but they've never been empty. If it passes the flashlight test, then you should be set shortly.
