General Discussion>Heading down to Myrtle Beach
mkarnold1 12:20 PM 10-27-2012
The wife and I are heading to Myrtle Beach for a vacation 11/9-11/16. I am wondering if anyone has some good suggestions on places to eat, buy (and smoke) cigars, or other fun stuff to do. We are leaving the kids behind, so not looking to do any "family friendly" stuff:-). Thanks for any and all suggestions! :-)

Nicks for cigars. Where in MB? That is a large area.

The resort is at 3000 South Ocean Blvd. On the South side of Myrtle beach. I'll google Nick's. Thanks!

Go south about 30 minutes to Murrells Inlet. Many good restaurants there. I'd recommend the Dead Dog Saloon. They have live music 7 nights a week on the back porch area. Good food. Good music. Despite what name may lead you to think, it's a nice joint! Look them up on www.

If you go as far as Murrells Inlet, find Sara Js. Very good food without all the party and tourist traps (of course, unless you are into either of those).

If you get that far, have a hot dog at Sams Corner.

Of course, there are the plethora of all you can eat fried seafood buffets. Good stuff there too. Really, just take your pick. THey are all about the same. We always used to do the Original Benjamins.

As well as Dead Dog, and Sara Js, there are at least six to ten more good eateries on or near the boardwalk of the Inlet! So you might find yourself there for more than one meal!!!

What these guys have said. Nick's is in North MB on 17. About a 10-15 mile ride from Myrtle. Murrells Inlet is about the same distance to the south. Since you're kidless, go to Nick's and shop a little, got eat some great seafood, and spend lots of quality time with your bride. If nothing else, walk on the beach. It'll be a good time to re-connect.

Thanks for the input guys! Sounds like Nick's and Sara J's are a must stop. Are there any good places to eat in MB or is everything really tourist oriented? (Of course, we are tourists...)

As much as I love the restaurants on the marsh walk of Murrells Inlet (particularly Dead Dog until they changed the Shrimp & Grits recipe, and Drunken Jacks,) we tend to avoid them during the summer because of the crowds. Discovered this little place nearby, however, and I'm glad we did--awesome food and the view on the Waccamaw River is spectacular:

I think it's going to be Sarah J's for lunch today.

Eat at the River City Cafe.
Captain George's seafood is great.
Or you could even drive north up to Calabash and eat seafood there.

I've got to "second" Captain George's seafood. Very good food, great building, great view.
