Jameson Cigars is an independent cigar maker that sells cigars and coffee. Brad Mayo, the president of the company, gave me a sampler of their three cigar lines, the Declaration, the Black label and the Red label. I have reviews planned on all three lines and I start with this Red label toro, a 6x52 cigar made with aged Dominican fillers, a Honduran binder and a Connecticut shade wrapper from Ecuador.

Image

The wrapper is pretty, smooth, oily but a bit pale and has some veins. The construction feels good but the predraw is a bit loose. The predraw leaves a mild dry raisin flavor on my palate.

I taste a mild citrus like sour earthy flavor with a pepper flavor in the aftertaste and some sweetness. The citrus like sourness disappears and I taste the earthy flavor with wood and the sweetness. The pepper has disappeared too.

Halfway the cigar gets a bit sweeter with a background of earth, herbs and spices. After two thirds I also taste some chocolate and the spice grows in strength. Near the end the spices are full and dominant.

The smoke time of this toro is an hour and twenty minutes. I got a lot of thick smoke. The draw and burn are good. The ash has a salt and pepper color and is firm. This cigar is medium flavored and medium bodied. I got a big flame during the purge.

Would I buy this cigar again? This is a good cigar, very good if you consider my dislike for Connecticut wrappers, but that same Connecticut makes it that I won't buy this cigar again.
