The Wife and I are looking at buying a new 2011 Grand Cherokee. I was thinking since everyone on is very knowledgeable, what do people think of this rig? From my research and driving a few they seem really nice, but I would love to hear others opinions. Thanks!

Well Chip, that is making me feel better about my intended direction :-) Not that I am not excited about the vehicle, I just have a real hard time spending money...

Me too. Especially on cars. Even more so on an SUV. I have always been a "buy a truck or buy a car" type of guy. The new Jeep GC is soooo sweet. That Dark Chrcoal Pearl with the saddle leather is hella sexy.

I fully agree. If it were totally up to me I would be buying a diesel 2500, but the wife has a say and with the 10 month old we need something with easier access than our three door saab. I like the Jeep a hell of a lot better than any of the wagons she wanted and it will be nice to have something that can get me off road reliably.

Just don't buy the 4WD expecting anything like true 4WD performance. With computer control, all it really is doing is shifting power to only one single tire at a time. Still single wheel drive, but traction control (and marketing) gives the illusion you are getting much better traction that actually exist. But, still is more than adequate for street driving (which is where 95% of SUVs are ever driven!) Good luck. They are nice looking rides.

Well I will actually be going off road quite a bit, I am going to get the off road package which has a two speed transfer case and mechanically locks the diff. I know it won't be as bad ass as my grandfathers 65 bronco, but it should be able to get me where I need to go.

If you can get the mech locks, then you can definitely get much better off-road performance out of it! If that 65 bronco is available.......:-)

Whats your budget? The new Ford Exploder is pretty badass too. Land Rover/Range Rover?

+1 on the new Explorer, if you haven't already checked it out.

Also, have you looked at the new Dodge Durango? The GC and the Durango share the same mechanicals and platform now. If one of them is cheaper than the other, it may be another option for you.

Unfortunately that Bronco and him passed away together...

Last time I went hunting with him we piled two elk in the back and two elk on a platform he had made fir just such a purpose. This was after wenching it up a cliff. Then he drove it out across the sage brush at about 25 mph in the dark with me trying to run ahead and keep him off a stump or rock. Of course he was going to fast and i could not keep up and he go the rear axel stuck on a stump. Had ot use the handy man jack and spare tire to get it off... Had a lot of good times with that Bronco...
