First of all, I don't have a palate that discerns nuances very well. But I do know what I like. And I like this cigar.
The first 601 I smoked was the red label. I like it. I've smoked about a dozen robustos. The red label reminds me of the DPG black label but it's a little more subtle than the DPG black.
The 601 green label is, to my palate, perhaps less subtle but more flavorful than the 601 red. I tasted the same filler blend as the red label, so I have to assume that the fuller flavor came from the oscuro wrapper. The usual Pepin spice is there but there's also a tanginess that I haven't gotten from other Pepin blends. The 601 green increased in strength and pepper throughout but I didn't notice a big change in the flavor
profile. The bottom line is- I liked it from start to finish.
I've smoked several of these and have found them to be very consistent. If you enjoy a full flavored Nicaraguan, I think you'll like the 601 green label. If you're a fan of Pepin blends, in general, I think you'll like the 601 green.
I've been impressed by the 601 brand through both the red and green label cigars. Although I'm more a fan of corojo wrappers than maduro wrappers, my experience with the 601s I have smoked makes me want to try the blue label (the only maduros I
really like right now are the DPG JJs).
The 601 green label robusto was an excellent cigar that I highly recommend. If you're a Pepin whore, you've got to try this one!
