I have an overnight layover in PDX on may way to PHX from ATL (flying Alaska so I can use upgrade certificates). Can anyone recommend a B&M or Restaurant/Bar + Lounge worth visiting in Portland, OR? Needs to be open until 9 or 10:00pm as I don't land until 7:35pm and need to pickup a rental car. Food is preffered so I can double-dip in one location.
Something like SMOKE on Cherry in Tulsa, OK, Cabernet in Alpharetta, GA, or Dantannas in Atlanta, GA would be great!
The only thing I'm finding on Yelp is McMenamins Greater Trumps... it may be the way I go, but I was hoping for something a tiny bit closer to the airport without it just being a dive bar.
Any ideas?

Depends upon the day of the week, how much you want to spend and where you are staying.
The Shilo Inn has a small lounge at their hotel near the airport. It is pretty good for near the airport, but it is small. I think they close at 11pm weekdays and midnight on Friday and Saturday.

There is El Gaucho Steak House in downtown Portland (SW); good steaks and a nice small lounge area. Good service but $$. I believe that they are open until 11pm during the week and midnight on Friday and Saturday.

Farther southwest (still in Portland) you have the Shilo Inn with The Mark Cigar Lounge. Much bigger lounge, lots of big-screens and full service food and drink. This tends to be a favorite of Stumptowners. 10pm Sun-Th, 11pm F-S.

Shilo looks like a good choice without going as far downtown... I should be able to grab some coffee beans from Extracto, hit Shilos for dinner and a smoke, and still be in bed by 11:30! The Lounge food menu should make it doable to keep food, a beer, and a stick under my $30 dinner per-diem. Any idea if you can put Cigars and food/drink on the same check? It makes expense reports easier if you know what I mean!
:-)
Thanks!

I've never purchased cigars at the Shilo but I would assume that they don't give you a separate check for them. They will let you bring your own if you are taking some along with you for your trip.
Also if you looking to visit a B&M, 82nd Ave Tobacco is not too far from the Airport (
http://www.82ave.com). They are typically open until 9:00pm. They have a small smoking lounge but I think you would have a better time smoking at the Shilo.

I'll probably have a few of my own in-toe, but if it's on the same check as my meal and under $30 total, it's easy to expense and the company bean counters don't really case... but once it hits $30.01, holy hell, it doesn't matter if it's a ham sandwich or a dime-bag, you're going to get *****ed at.

The prices are pretty high for cigars at the mark to be honest. I would buy better booze and bring your own smoke there!

What he said.
The people at the Shilo Inn are pretty accommodating. If you need everything on one check or you want separate checks they will help you out.

These days, any bar/restaurant should accommodate the business traveler by doing whatever is necessary. If there is a party of 30, that's a different story. But for one person, they should do whatever is asked.

I haven't been to the airport Shilo in about 2 years, but the last time I went, they did not have cigars for sale. It's a small room off the main restaurant. I'd call before making any assumptions.

No worries, I'll take my own just in case and buy something there if they do have anything that strikes me.
Thanks again for all the help!

I would recommend the The Mark (Shilo hotel bar). Great great place. Of course the hard part is getting to The Mark. I would consider El Gaucho since you can take the Max downtown easily. I would recommend picking up a cigar from Rich's Cigar Store in downtown. Not cheap, but it will beat the prices from El Gaucho hands down.
